Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail” racked up at the weekend box office
, opening with $41.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. “Madea Goes To Jail,” Perry’s first film starring the pistol holding grandma since “Madea’s Family Reunion,” became the director’s highest grossing film beating the $30 million grossing “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”.

According to published reports, Perry’s box office clout has lessened recently, but the success of “Madea Goes to Jail” reinforces the notion that Perry draws the largest audience when he dons a frumpy dress as his trademark grandmother character, Madea.

Steve Rothenberg, president of distribution at Lionsgate said the debut of “Madea” was the studio’s best opening in its 14-year history. The studio’s previous top opening was the $33.6 million debut of 2006’s “Saw III.”

“You could argue that Madea is now the top female box office star in Hollywood,” said Rothenberg, whose studio has distributed all seven of Perry’s films, several of which were released straight to DVD. “The character is one of the great screen creations of the last decade.”

Chris Brown is trying to get back in Rihanna's good graces by buying gifts:

Embattled R&B star CHRIS BROWN lavished gifts on birthday girl RIHANNA in a bid to heal the rift between the pair, according to U.S. reports. The Umbrella singer put on a brave face and celebrated turning 21 with a low-key bash at a rented home in the Hollywood Hills less than two weeks after she was allegedly beaten by her pop star beau. Brown was charged by Los Angeles police with making criminal threats following the incident, which reportedly left Rihanna needing hospital treatment.

But, despite facing possible jail time over the alleged attack, Brown is desperate to try and win back his lover - buying the star a diamond bracelet and necklace before making an emotional phone call to ask for forgiveness, according to the New York Daily News. A source tells the publication, “Chris called Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday. “He’s absolutely trying to get back into her good graces. He knows he’s very much in the doghouse right now, and is doing everything he can to show her how sorry he is.”

And Rihanna is reportedly finding it difficult to turn her back on the relationship. The insider adds, “Rihanna so wanted Chris with her on her big day, but obviously realizes why they can’t be together right now. But it’s becoming more and more clear that she can’t be without him.” Rihanna spoke out about the incident for the first time at the weekend, thanking her fans for “the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time”.

Fabolous Busted With 500 lbs of Weed!

Rapper Fabolous may have been mentioned in a drug bust of over 500 pounds of marijuana which was found on a tour bus traveling through Arkansas on it’s way to Boston from Phoenix where the NBA All-Star Weekend took place. It seems that Arkansas State Police initiated a traffic stop on the tour bus as it was passing through the heavily monitored Interstate 40 near Russellville. According to Michael Ford of Arkansas Courier, there were no rappers on board the bus, however the two drivers were arrested. Edward Thimas, 52, of Douglasville, GA., and Robert Morris, 44, of Augusta, GA both began to offer information as the police interrogated them claiming that none of the items in the locked compartment on the bus containing the marijuana, belonged to them, but actually to the people that they were transporting. However, the two were still arrested after they gave the conflicting stories to the police. Thimas told police they were returning from the game in Phoenix after escorting rapper Fabolous (spelled Fabulous in the report by The Arkansas Courier). He added that the two were headed to Boston to pick up another rapper whose name he couldn’t recall. On the other hand, Morris’ side of the story according to police reports, was that the two had taken three rappers from Atlanta to Phoenix and were going to Boston to meet them as the rappers had flown ahead. Later Thimas attempted to match his story with Morris’, but the police at this time were already suspicious of the two. Officers proceeded to search their bus with permission where they found the pounds of marijuana which the drivers, as previously mentioned stating the the contents wasn’t theirs, but the “other guys’ merchandise.” The two drivers had over $4,000 in cash combined in their possession as well as an additional $2400 in a black bag. In an attempt to cooperate with the police further, Morris additionally stated he’d help in the investigation because it was the rappers not them who put the bags and boxes on the bus. The two were arrested on drug possession and other charges and on Wednesday received a bond of $200,000 for Morris and a bond of $75,000 for Thimas. At the time of their arrest the two drivers had over $4,000 in cash combined in their possession as well as an additional $2400 in a black bag. The time and location of the arrest both hint that it may have been rapper Fabolous on the tour bus as the rapper was reportedly in Phoenix on that mentioned weekend. According to the rapper’s Myspace page, Fabolous was scheduled to perform at The W Hotel on February 13th, and Club Phoenix on February 15th. Meanwhile, no official statement has been released from Fabolous’ camp about this incident.

The Game In Legal Trouble!

The Game may be ordered to pay over $1 million in damages stemming from an alleged basketball –fueled assault in February 2007. Shannon Rodrick, a basketball coach, claims that the Compton star, real name Jayceon Taylor, punched and threatened him almost 2 years ago during a Los Angles City Hoop game. According to Rodrick’s March 2008 suit, he was coaching his Blazers team to a double digit blowout of the Litem-up, whom the Game was playing for.

During a timeout, the filing states the Game accosted Rodrick verbally before the alleged physical assault.

“Your team is garbage,” the lawsuit reports Game as stating. “You guys are nothing but a bunch of busters.”

After subsequently punching Rodrick in the face, the coach claims Game vowed to shoot him after he followed the Hip-Hop star outside the Rita Walters Learning Complex.

To prevent this, Rodrick details that he hid inside the venue until the rapper left.

Since the incident’s fallout, Game has already pleaded no contest to firearm possession in a school zone, served 8 days in jail, received three years probation, and is in the process of completing 150 hours of community service.

However, the popular emcee never responded to civil court allegations resulting from the altercation.

Rodrick’s attorney, Rosely George, is pushing for a default outcome at the next court session, which would force the defendant to pay $1.5 million dollars to Rodrick as compensation for the attack.

To avoid the hefty payout, the Compton emcee will need to attend and make a case at the next scheduled court session on April 22.

Since releasing his gold certified third project LAX last summer, Game has so far maintained his vow to “retire” from making any further studio albums.

At press time, the Game could not be reached for comment.

Shyne To Be Released On Good Behavior!

Following an entertainment website’s publishing last night of a closeup photograph of what appears to be Rihanna’s badly beaten face, the Los Angeles Police Department has launched an internal investigation into the source of the leak. “The photograph has the appearance of one taken during an official Domestic Violence investigation. The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence,” the LAPD said via a statement released on Thursday.”The Department launched an immediate internal investigation and subsequently filed a personnel complaint. A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination.”

The LAPD has not officially identified Rihanna as the alleged victim in the Chris Brown domestic violence case, but it said in its statement that last night it received “numerous inquiries about the release of a photograph associated with a domestic violence incident that occurred on February 8, 2009, involving entertainer Chris Brown.”

The police statement encourages anyone with information about the source of the photo to call or visit the department’s website.

& Politics opens with 76,000 copies sold, following up 2006’s Testimony: Vol. 1, which debuted at no. 1 with 161,000 sold.

Two spots down, at no. 5, is British singer Lily Allen’s It’s Not Me, It’s You, selling 70,000 copies, while Bobby Valentino’s latest The Rebirth enters the charts at no. 7, selling 64,000 units, thanks to his new single “Beep.”

Best New Artist Grammy winner, Adele, climbed from no. 27 to no. 10 this week with her album 19, thanks to a 218% sales bump of 57,000 copies this week. The Grammy Nominees 2009 compilation also saw a sales surge, jumping to no. 9 with 61,000 albums sold this week.

That does it for the top 10.

Beyonce’s I Am … Sasha Fierce calls to no. 12 with just over 50,000 units scanned this week, putting her over the 1.8 million mark.

Lonely Island’s new album, Incredibad, debuted right behind B at no. 13, selling nearly 50,000 to start, while Jamie Foxx’s Intuition moves another 40,000 to put him at no. 14.

After Wednesday’s announcement that Tameka Raymond left a Brazil hospital on Monday, photos of her departure were released on Thursday.

Raymond, wife of Usher, was seen at the Airport of Guarulhos, reportedly heading back home to the United States.

She had spent 11 days recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered immediately prior to undergoing plastic surgery.

“She left the hospital on Monday night,” Mirtes Bogea, a spokeswoman for the Sirio-Libanes Hospital, told PEOPLE. “We do not have any more information about her condition.”

Ellen Dastry, a spokeswoman for plastic surgeon Silvio Sterman, who was to perform the “simple liposuction,” said last week that Raymond, 38, suffered a cardiac arrest while being anesthetized for the procedure at Sao Paulo’s Sao Rafael Hospital.

Recent NAACP Image Award winning star Sean “Diddy” Combs is ready to introduce the world to the refreshing sound of ‘Train’ music on his forthcoming album “Last Train To Paris.”

Slated for release Sept. 22, Diddy’s “Last Train To Paris” features production from Rodney Jerkins, The-Dream, and Tricky Stewart.

“I’m ushering in a new movement called ‘train music,’ says Diddy.

According to the former “Last Night” star, “Train Music” blends elements of electronica, hip-hop, soul and funk together.

“I am going to show the world a new refreshing side of me. The album is deeper than any other stuff I have ever made. It’s a profound love story.”

While a single has not been released from the forthcoming effort, portions of Diddy’s recording sessions for “Last Train To Paris” can and have been seen on the hit MTV reality series “Making the Band 4″.

Usher’s wife is finally out of the hospital after spending more than a week at a swanky facility in Brazil. Tameka Foster Raymond was released Monday night from Sao Paulo’s Hospital Sirio Libanes, a source tells the Associated Press, where she was admitted after suffering complications from plastic surgery. Her husband was spotted boarding a plane to the U.S. Tuesday without his wife. Raymond is on the road to recovery from a heart attack she suffered during a lipsuction procedure and is currently taking…… antibiotics to fight a lung infection, according to Brazil’s Globo TV. Raymond underwent the procedure a mere two months after giving birth to the couple’s second son, Naviyd Ely. Patients should wait six to eight months after giving birth to have the procedure, the president of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery tells the Daily News. Usher canceled a scheduled performance at record mogul Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy bash on Nov. 7 to fly to his wife’s side, citing an illness in the family. The singer’s rep released a statement soon after, which said Raymond was “suffering complications from a routine surgery,” adding, “no further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.”

Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders met in the building with Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson to discuss the end of segregation.

“So you guys know your history. That’s a good thing,” she said. “That means your parents and teachers are doing their jobs.”

Mrs. Obama encouraged them to look beyond the names in the history books and to “think about the extraordinary people who live in your own world,” like parents, grandparents and teachers, “all those folks who play important roles in black history and American history every single day.”

She said they will write history’s next chapter and they should work hard every day, always put their best foot forward, even when no one is looking, and support their families at home by making their beds
, putting away dishes and cleaning their rooms. “That’s part of the preparation,” said Mrs. Obama, whose daughters, Malia and Sasha, sat in the front row with her mother, Marian Robinson.

Dwyane Wade sued his estranged wife and two of her lawyers Wednesday over accusations the Miami Heat star contracted a sexually transmitted disease through an extramarital affair. In the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, Wade is seeking at least $50,000 in damages from each defendant. Siohvaughn Wade said last month the player infected her with an unspecified disease in 2007. Weeks later, she withdrew the claim from the court hearing the divorce case for unknown reasons. That wasn’t enough to satisfy the 2006 NBA finals MVP, who said her allegations not only defamed him, but caused “embarrassment” and “humiliation” along with damaging future earning potential. “It has been difficult….. to see false allegations, rumors and gossip repeatedly discussed in public about my personal life,” Dwyane Wade said in a statement released to the AP. “I had no other choice but to file this action in order to clear my name.” Wade declined further comment. The All-Star guard also lists attorneys Michael Berger and Dorene Marcus as defendants, along with their firms, contending they wronged him in the same manner as his estranged wife. The suit was filed in Chicago, where the divorce proceedings have gone on for nearly a year. “Mr. Wade has been the victim of a reckless campaign by Siohvaughn Wade and her lawyers to publicly humiliate him and damage his reputation,” Joe Power, an attorney representing the Heat player, said in a statement to the AP. “To clear the public record from these false and malicious allegations, we have filed a defamation suit in court … and will seek appropriate compensation for damages.” Siohvaughn Wade’s claim made “by and through her attorneys, and disseminated by various print and online media throughout the world placed plaintiff Dwyane Wade in a false light,” according to the lawsuit.

“We believe there’s absolutely no merit to it,” Berger said. “I believe that the lawsuit will get dismissed. It seems interesting to me Wade would file a lawsuit like this when he supposedly wants to keep a low profile. This lawsuit will put his entire private and social life in full view of the public.” Berger added that even though the original claim by Siohvaughn Wade was withdrawn, “Mrs. Wade has stood behind her allegations.” In the allegations filed in January, along with the claims of affairs and being infected with an STD, Siohvaughn Wade said her husband abandoned their children and goes weeks at a time without speaking to them. She added that the paternal relationship was so severed that her younger son cries uncontrollably when he’s around and he does not recognize Dwyane Wade as his father. Siohvaughn Wade’s withdrawal of the claim wouldn’t prevent her from resubmitting it to court at a later date. The divorce proceedings are not expected to end anytime soon.

Tupac's mother Afeni, is being sued by Hollywood:

The mother of TUPAC SHAKUR is facing legal action after allegedly backing out of a deal to sell the rights to the late rapper’s life story for a film adaptation. Amaru Entertainment, which is run by Afeni Shakur, the star’s mother and the executor of his estate, is being sued by film production company Morgan Creek.

In papers filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, officials at the production house allege a written contract was in place for the rights to the California Love hitmaker’s life story.
They claim Afeni backed out of negotiations, which began in November (08), and is now refusing “to honor and perform a contract of a production of the film based on the life of Tupac Shakur”.
The company is seeking unspecified damages.

But lawyers for Amaru have denied existence of any such deal with Morgan Creek - and claim the production company only filed the writ to sabotage talks with other movie studios about adapting Shakur’s life story.

Attorney Skip Miller says, “There is no agreement with Morgan Creek, there never was, and there never will be. “They have scared away Paramount, Fox and others, and we are going to sue them and recover millions (in damages).” Lawyers for Morgan Creek declined to comment on the allegations.

Rihanna is listless, suffering from headaches and “torn” over her parents’ pleas to cooperate with police after she was allegedly assaulted by boyfriend Chris Brown, the new issue of Us Weekly reports.

“She hums sometimes, but she’s more quiet than I’ve ever seen her,” an unnamed pal of the “Umbrella” singer told Us.

The friend said Rihanna, 20, visited a doctor last Friday, five days after Brown allegedly roughed her up following a fight in the couple’s rented Lamborghini.

“It was because of the endless headaches she’s been having since Chris hit her,” the friend said.

“The doctors were concerned about the contusions on the sides of her head.”

The magazine reports that Rihanna is “torn” over helping cops build a case.

Brown, 19, was arrested the night of the Grammys on suspicion of making criminal threats and was released on $50,000 bail.

“I mean, damn, her eye’s black and the sides of her face are all f—-d up,” the friend told Us. “But she keeps saying she still loves him.”

Rihanna’s parents are reportedly pleading with her not to worry about how jail time might affect Brown’s career, according to Us. A Daily News source said the Barbados-bred beauty is cooperating with police.

Terrence Howard Sees Himself In Chris Brown + JAY-Z

Terrence Howard recently commented on Chris Brown, saying he was a good man after the situation. Maybe because he is no stranger to domestic abuse:

He later retracted his backing, stating that he wasn’t aware of what the singer/dancer was accused of. (Duh!) But what’s interesting is that Howard himself has been found to have pulled a “Chris Brown” himself back eight years ago, according to the Smoking Gun.com.

The website details that the actor was arrested by Pennsylvania authorities in September 2001 for assaulting his estranged wife at the time, Lori McCommas. Here’s how The Smoking Gun is reporting the incident:

The actor, who co-starred in “Iron Man” and was nominated in 2006 for an Academy Award for his role in “Hustle & Flow,” was arrested by Pennsylvania cops in September 2001 for assaulting his estranged wife. According to a Whitemarsh Police Department report, after Howard and Lori McCommas argued on the phone, the actor warned, “Don’t disrespect me by hanging up on me or I’ll come over and hurt you.” McCommas then “hung up and contacted 911 fearing Howard was serious.” While McCommas was speaking with a police dispatcher, Howard “showed up at the victim’s residence and began breaking the door down.” McCommas ran to the rear of the house and into the backyard. Howard then “broke the front door down and ran through the screen door in the kitchen. Howard then grabbed the victim’s left arm and punched her twice with a closed fist in the left side of the face.”

Howard was freed from custody after posting $20,000 bail and pleaded guilty in 2002 to disorderly conduct. He and McCommas divorced in 2003 but remarried in 2005. They have three children together, but are currently separated.

Chris Brown has been taking a lot of L's lately. It's only getting worse:

Singer Rihanna’s camp has declined to officially comment on Chris Brown’s apology statement, but sources say that the “Umbrella” crooner is “appalled” by Brown’s statement.

“All of us, including Rihanna, don’t understand how he can say he’s sorry on the one hand, but still… does not admit any guilt,” a Barbados pal of Rihanna tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “He should have expressed more contrition.”

After a week of negative press for Chris subsequent to the alleged abuse of Rihanna, Brown released a statement saying he was “sorry and saddened… over what transpired,” but did not go into detail about the altercation.

A source close to the Rihanna told the newspaper that RiRi is “royally pissed off” at what she calls Brown’s “cavalier and arrogant statement.”

Both singers are currently keeping a low profile. Chris is due in court March 5.

Hip-Hop mogul and former head of Phat Farm Russell Simmons will launch a new line of clothing in 350 Wal-Mart stores.

Simmons American Classic line will sell for between $9.99 and $29 with most of the line being priced at less than $15.

Wal-Mart will carry a number of items from the American Classics line, including knit and woven shirts, sweater vests, jeans, casual sports shoes and more. Simmons also struck a deal to place flat screen TV’s in most of the stores carrying the line, that will feature the mogul describing his latest brand.

Simmons, who launched his Phat Farm line of clothing in 1992, sold the brand in 2004 to Kellwood Industries for $140 million in cash.

He stepped down from the CEO position of Phat Farm in 2007 but has continued in the fashion world with his brands Russell Simmons-Argyleculture and Atman.

The line debuted on Sunday (February 15) in a Chicago-area Wal-Mart.

The rest of the line will be rolled out nationwide in the coming weeks.

Fourteen-time gold medalist Michael Phelps won’t be charged over a photo showing him smoking from a marijuana pipe a South Carolina sheriff said Monday….… “Having thoroughly investigated this matter, we do not believe we have enough evidence to prosecute anyone that was present at the November party,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a press statement.

Lett said Phelps — who was suspended for three months by USA Swimming and lost a Kelloggs sponsorship deal — “is not immune from his responsibilities to do what is right. Items such as Jacko’s iconic glittery glove - unveiled in the 1983 video for his smash hit Billie Jean - famous stage costumes, flash pieces of jewellery, his luxurious tour bus and many of his paintings, sculptures, awards and arcade games are being auctioned off. The glove - completely covered in clear Swarovski crystals - is expected to fetch up to £10,000 alone.

The gilt and iron gates to Jackson’s Neverland ranch are also up for grabs - with a price tag of between £15,000-£20,000. The sparkly black jacket he wore for his 1984 Hollywood Walk Of Fame star dedication ceremony is also going for a mere £15,000.

But the priciest item by a mile is Jackson’s custom-made 1999 Rolls Royce, which comes with an estimate of £100,000-£112,000. The extravaganza - to be held at a Beverly Hilton Hotel - starts on April 22 and will spread over four days. Organisers say it is bound to give the public a rare glimpse into the private world of the controversial singer.

Kid Cudi Discusses getting his ass shocked All-Star Weekend:

Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi has dispelled the notion that he was arrested in an altercation in Phoenix during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Cudi was set to perform at a Reebok party when an altercation transpired between the rapper and Reebok employees of the event. Reports detail the verbal altercation becoming physical fight. Police were called where Cudi was then tasered after officers couldn’t control the rapper.

“I was tasered (s**t hurt like a muthaf*cka), I was not arrested.” said the rapper on his blog at kidcudi.com. “I didn’t put my hands on anyone; the muthaf*cka I was trying to touch, I couldn’t reach his f**kin’ collar to grab him.”

In reports by eyewitnesses, the rapper defiantly wore Jordans to a Reebok party as the source of the altercation, but Cudi claimed that intelligence is false.

“It wasn’t over me wearing Jordans. I arrived at the event in the most ‘fugliest’ Reeboks ever,” he said.

Cudi also noted that he immediately left the scene in car service after the incident ended.

Although the rapper presented his side in his blog, he was vague about why the altercation transpired. He said he just wants to make music not be involved in such drama. “This s**t really makes me want to fall back on this music s**t yo, s**t is getting out of hand,” he lamented. “I’m just a dude who wants to make ill music to help people on their day to day grind, help them get thru it to accomplish whatever goals they have in life.”
